Adenois Cystic Carcenoma.
That was my best try at spelling it. I’ve had this disease for five years and there are still parts of it where I am just… clueless. That said, the correct spelling is Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma. The day I found out I had it, I was told to NOT google it. The reason why is because it basically says you’re gonna die. The recurrence rate is super high. So after five years, MOST people have already treated the initial finding, and then have had it come back, either in the original spot, or somewhere else (this is called Metastasis if it shows up in a new location).
Of course I googled it.
I think I waited a good few months. But I did finally google it, and man. It’s so scary. You really have to sit there and read about the statistical likelihood that you will have untreatable cancer. Also, spoiler alert: I have untreatable cancer. There was a stretch where I did NOT have cancer, so we will talk about that now and in the next few days, but right now I have spots and tumors in my lungs that are not operable and will likely just be there for the foreseeable future. OK, let’s talk about the positive part where they got rid of my cancer and I was a big warrior and defeated cancer. I will get to that. But I want to talk about types of cancer and how people get them.
Mesothelioma.
This word has become a joke, and it’s sort of sad. Mesothelioma is the type of cancer that is developed after extended exposure to asbestos. This is common among people who worked in ship docks or in certain types of manufacturing, especially in the 70s and early 80s. Mesothelioma is not cureable. There are law suits where people can sue their former employer (or the surviving family can sue on behalf of their deceased family member). It’s a very serious cancer. But, it’s also a common late night question because of the advertisements by lawyers, so the word has become sort of a joke. When I first started in online marketing in 2003 the word mesothemelioma was like $120 a click… and I mean… now everything else is too, I can’t imagine how bad it is.
Lung Cancer Caused By Smoking
The leading cause of lung cancer is smoking cigareetes. That said, not all people who smoke get cancer, and not all people who get cancer smoked. I happen to have smoked cigarettes when I was younger, but I have been assured it has nothing to do with my current or prevous cancer. I don’t know why that even matters. But it does. It matters to me. I guess I need to know that I didn’t do this to myself.
